struggle for clean skies
An Ongoing Struggle for Clean Skies:
Delhi, the bustling heart of India, is infamous for its notorious air quality. Despite efforts to combat pollution, the city continues to face severe air quality challenges.
Humans are the only ones who pollute and destroy nature. Other creatures always nurture the environment; even after they become extinct, a dead leaf will become manure, and similarly, a dead animal will become manure or food for other animals. Humans, on the other hand, often prefer to destroy by polluting the environment instead of nurturing it.
In recent years, there's been a notable shift as people have become increasingly concerned about environmental pollution. As a result, many have transitioned from fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles. This change reflects a growing awareness and commitment to reducing carbon footprints and embracing more sustainable practices.
Delhi, the bustling heart of India, is infamous for its notorious air quality. Despite efforts to combat pollution, the city continues to face severe air quality challenges.
Here's a snapshot of the pollution levels over the past three years:
2021: A Grim Reality
In 2021, Delhi's air quality was alarmingly poor. The average PM2.5 levels soared to 143 µg/m³, with PM10 levels reaching 265 µg/m³. The Air Quality Index (AQI) frequently lingered in the "Severe" range, a stark reminder of the pressing environmental crisis.
2022: A Ray of Hope?
The following year saw a slight improvement. Average PM2.5 levels decreased to 120 µg/m³, and PM10 levels dipped to 230 µg/m³. While the AQI predominantly remained in the "Very Poor" category, this marginal improvement was a glimmer of hope for Delhi's residents.
In 2023, the city's air quality showed further signs of recovery. Average PM2.5 levels fell to 110 µg/m³, and PM10 levels to 210 µg/m³. The AQI was often in the "Poor" range, indicating that while there's progress, a long journey lies ahead.
Behind these numbers lies a stark reality for millions of Delhiites. Prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels leads to severe health issues, including respiratory diseases, cardiovascular problems, and impaired immune systems. Vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly bear the brunt of this crisis.
The battle against air pollution is far from over. Both government initiatives and individual actions are crucial to pave the way for a cleaner, healthier future. Implementing stricter emission norms, increasing green cover, promoting sustainable transportation, and raising public awareness are key steps toward improving Delhi’s air quality.
As we reflect on these statistics, it's clear that while progress has been made, the fight for clean air in Delhi continues. It is a collective responsibility to push for sustainable changes, ensuring that the city's skies are clear and its citizens can breathe freely.
Thought provoking article.
